DEVELOPMENT DISCILPINE DYNAMISM
Namaste,
Hello, Oss!
We are a group of
senior Karate athletes who left Nepal to pursue better opportunities and live
in different geographical parts around the globe and are now united under the
umbrella of the Global Nepalese Karate Organization (GNKO) which was
established under the law and regulations of Ontario Canada. GNKO is
established to help and promote underprivileged Karate Athletes who live in
remote villages of Nepal under the poverty lines who can’t afford sports
because of financial hardship and has tremendous potential in the field of
sports karate. So, we are working with an amazing organization GNKO. We have
about 200 members from Asia, America, Europe, and all over the world. Together
we have been helping Karate players and Karate training centers in remote areas
of Nepal. In 2022 we have distributed lots of Karate training equipment to
different karate training schools and at the same time we are providing
scholarships to those students who have financial hardship. Since we have
established GNKO our only income sources are membership fees and donations from
GNKO members, and this source is significantly not enough for the projects we
are planning for coming days. So, we have decided to run a fundraising program.
Need of Scholarship Fund for Nepali Karatekas:
Nepal can be a
difficult place to live. Half of Nepal's population lives below the poverty
line, and about one-third of the population lives without clean drinking water.
These are people who do not have access to basic needs such as food, health
care, and education. Almost half of the population is jobless in Nepal, with
most Nepalese people living on a $1 day or less, and an average income of less
than $200 a year in rural areas. The GDP per capita for year 2022 is only about
USD 1200. One of the major barriers to improving this situation is the lack of
access to miscellaneous education; one of them is physical health education. In
Nepal, challenges such as poverty, shortages of schools and teachers in
isolated areas and poor facilities preclude children from receiving physical
health education.
Nepal is a country
known as a country of warriors. From history, we can find that many Nepalese
used to serve in different countries as the Gorkha army to support the
financial need of the family. If one looks at the 1st world war and 2nd world
war history, one will find undisputable great warriors from Gorkha Army who
fought for Britain and India. In summary Nepalese are good at combat and,
Karate is one of the Japanese combat arts, which is nowadays developed as
sports all over the world.
In sports karate,
Nepal was doing really good in international competitions. During 8th
SAF Games ( South Asian federation games which is organized by south Asian
Olympic committee) Nepal was able to secure 1st place due to Nepali Karatekas
contributing 14 Gold, 1 silver and 1 Bronze medal. But nowadays other SAF
countries are going far ahead due to their sound economy or good financial
status. But even though Nepalese are born with combat talent they are not
developing enough due to lack of financial support. It has great potential if
we can support it financially, it can stand well up to the world champions.
Besides, the young generation can pursue Karate sport as their career. This
will help not only individuals but also the entire country from the sport's
health perspective including socio-economic aspects.
90% of players are
from metro cities of Nepal whereas only 10 % of players are coming from rural
remote areas due to their financial problems. So, we want to explore those
groups from where they became worldwide popular as a Gorkha Army. More than 80%
of Gorkha's armies are from remote areas of Nepal. So, we hope that we can
prepare world-level groups of Karate players from those remote areas. Karate
training to young girls and boys can help to get rid of gender based violence
and drug abuse as well.
How the Fund Works:
This scholarship fund has
been set up to help deserving Karate students in Nepal achieve their sports
dreams, while simultaneously allowing them to give back to the communities
around them. Nepali sportsmen in good standing who could not otherwise afford
to do sports are given financial support to help cover their Karate school,
uniforms, and training equipment. In return, the scholarship students commit to
engaging in regular community service throughout their scholarship period,
preferably in the physical education sector. In this way, the Fund can advance
the goal of physical education in Nepal beyond its scholarship awardees. This
will help for sustaining for a long period of time.
